Executing Trusts & Wills During the COVID-19 Quarantine

Updated: May 4, 2020

We often write about the need to take care of estate planning before the worst-case scenario happens. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has called attention to the urgency among many people to get trusts & wills executed as quickly as possible.

As a Critical Financial & Professional Services Firm, we are doing everything we can remotely  to serve your needs as well as keep our staff & families safe.

Our office remains open to serve you as of today.

Here are a few important updates that may help if you are considering having a will or trust prepared right now.

Using Technology to Collect Information

We typically meet with clients twice. The first meeting is when we discuss your needs and organize the list of information needed in order to prepare your documents.

Currently, we are conducting most of these first meetings via telephone to limit the number of people coming to the office.

Based on your initial meeting, our team will prepare your documents and send them ahead of time electronically for your review.

We are happy to answer any questions about your documents ahead of your office visit to ensure your time here is as brief as possible.

What You Can & Cannot Execute Online

We are currently evaluating online technology which may allow you to sign and accept certain legal documents online.

However, documents such as wills, codicils, and testamentary trusts, require validating your driver’s license in person as well as witnesses in order to be executed.

Therefore, wills cannot be completed online and require a visit to our office in order to be considered valid by current legal standards.

Our Commitment to You

We realize that coming in to sign your will in front of witnesses may not be your preference under the current circumstances.

That’s why we are taking every step possible to minimize the risk to you, your family and our staff, including:

  • Making sure all documents are finalized ahead of your visit
  • Offering curb-side notary services (weather permitting)
  • Maintaining a dedicated conference room which is sanitized in between each appointment
  • Offering you the option for our team to wear a mask and/or gloves during your signing

The safety of our clients and staff has never been more important than it is right now.

If you would like to have your trust, advanced medical directive, powers of attorney or will prepared, please get in touch with our office today.
